Learning Encounter 1: Exploring.

Required Activities Prior to the Encounter:

Completing Harvard IAT testing, at least 5 different tests.

Reading:

The Yamas and Niyamas, Exploring Yoga’s Ethical Practice by Deborah Adele

Skill in Action, radicalizing your yoga practice to create a just world by Michelle Cassandra Johnson

Learning Encounter 1 Schedule:

After introductions, we begin with a meditation and journalling experience to ground us into the space. We then set ground rules and boundaries and then dig into the work of defining and discussing terms, relating the terms back to the Yamas and Niyamas, discussing our implicit bias test results and our feelings about what we learned and finishing with a restorative yoga practice and meditation. Time does vary with engagement, but suggested time is 120 minutes.

Learning Encounter 1 Objectives:

The objectives of this encounter are:

  • set boundaries and guidelines that we will follow through the trainings

  • create a safe space to explore one’s own bias

  • create a safe space to explore and define terms, ask questions in respectful and confidential ways

  • create a safe space to explore feelings, bias, roots of bias and allow them the opportunity to transition
